Why it has taken me this long to invite you to join my Sylvia Borgo Photography page on Facebook, I simply don’t know. I love Facebook.

Now, a little more info on the picture you see above. This is my kiddo. Kiddo #1. Full of energy, full of smarts and pretty used to my camera pointed at him (or his younger brother) all the time. Ha, ha! I had about 2 minutes to take this picture - he was so busy riding his bike and playing with his paper airplane that if I took too long, he’d surely turn into Mr. Crankypants. Gorgeous girl and awesome photographer Priscilla Gragg just got back from Brazil and had a few goodies to give away to her blog readers. I could so see myself in those Havaianas. :)

Most importantly, Pri inspired me to go for the flare. I’m a big fan of blown out skies, but don’t think I’m so great at catching the PERFECT flare. I’ll keep on working on it, Pri, I promise.

Boys Just Wanna Have Fun

What do you get when you put together 3 gorgeous and uber-stylish boys and take them to fly airplanes on a perfect Saturday morning? You get these images. Just the way I like ‘em. Lots of color, lots of fun.

My friend, Jules Trandem - a very cool photographer, invited me to come with her to photograph her son B. and his pre-school buddy C. I brought my own cutie, D. It was a perfect opportunity to get a few creative shots off of our chests. Sometimes I lay awake at night and dream up photo sessions. I know what colors I’d like to incorporate, I know what “props” I’d like to bring along. I imagine certain “scenes.” This session was all Jules’ idea - her inspiration was yellow Small Paul boots, the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, and paper airplanes. Thanks for letting me tag along, Jules. I hope you all enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Facts: According to Me

Fact #1 - I love pretty stationary. Girly, swirly fonts, cute colors. Thus, I love Valentine’s Day cards.

Fact #2 - I like the IDEA of Valentine’s Day candy. You know, the tiny hearts that come in a small box. However, the kind I always end up with is chalky and minty tasting. Blech!

Fact #3 - I totally love going to those “chick flicks” that always come out around Valentine’s Day. Give me Jude Law, Clive Owens, Hugh Grant, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, put them all together in a romantic comedy and I’m in Hollywood Heaven.

Fact #4 - I didn’t date much in high school. I always wanted to be THAT girl that got tons of balloons and a giant teddy bear and 4 dozen roses delivered to French class from a secret admirer. LOL!

Fact #5 - This year’s Valentine’s Day templates are Cutttttttte! PIck up some wallets and have the kiddos glue these to their goody bags to take to their school party. Don’t forget to save some for the grandparents! They are fully customizable in design, message, and color.

Thanks for stopping by my {BLOG}! I hope you have had a wonderful week of holiday cheer and fabulous family time. I know I have enjoyed this season tremendously with my family. But before this year is over, I have to showcase just one more family - the Rosson Family.

I was lucky enough to photograph them for the second year in a row. And, oh how that makes my heart jump for joy! I love to revisit with families year after year, to see how the kids are growing up, to explore how the dynamics between parents and siblings have evolved, and to capture the relationships shared.

I was super excited to photograph Brian, Jennifer, M. and M. in Solana Beach. This location suits the family perfectly because they are UBER stylish. The Thomas Family - Del Mar Family Photographs

I arrived at San Dieguito Park on THE perfect fall day during THE perfect time of the day to meet the Thomas family. Everything was just perfect - the leaves on the ground, a light fall chill, and a fun-loving family. When I met K. and C. I was sure we were going to have a great time. These kiddos are very close in age to my own two boys, so I felt like I knew them already. Don’t they have the most amazing eyes and smiles? Erin and Robert also were up for a few pictures of them as a couple. I absolutely love it when couples take pictures of themselves without the kiddos. You see, I feel that when parents do this it is like a gift to their children - images that the kids can go back to and admire when they are all grown-up.

It was my great, great pleasure to meet Christy and Todd in their home back in October to photograph their daughter E. Because Christy and Todd wanted to send out birth announcements and holiday cards to their friends and family. I’ve had to keep this newborn session under lock and key for the last few weeks. But I am soooooo happy to know share with you just a few images.

Oh, *deep sigh* how I love photographing babies. I do, I do, I do! And guess what! I get to see E. again for her 4th, 8th, and 12th months. The “Sweet Pea” pacakge will document E.’s first year. What a fantastic way to celebrate the newest addition to the Conway family!

I’ve had a lucky streak. I’ve gotten a chance to meet and photograph the most adorable toddlers recently. The past few weekends in a row, I’ve chased after, played peek-a-boo with, carried, sang to 17 and 18 month olds. Ohhh, how I love it.

And here is beautiful A. and her picture-perfect parents. Doesn’t this first picture below just melt your heart? You might spy pretzels, cheese, a finger puppet in the next few pictures - it is no secret that most toddlers are a hungry lot and love to clutch smallish things in their pudgy little hands. Oh, how my heart melts!

I know I say this EVERY TIME - and I mean it EVERY TIME. I get to photograph the most beautiful families in the world. They are beautiful on the inside and so, so beautiful on the inside.

This is the Young family. I just couldn’t wait to meet them and photograph them. Juli contacted me about family portraits and as we were communicating back and forth via email, I realized I was gonna love these guys. Juli and Greg have a grrrrreat sense of humor so it was a blast to hang out with them. And then you bring into the picture (pun intended) their gorgeous and sweet, sweet kids E., J,, and A. and you have a wonderful morning in the making.

Darling. Lovely little girls with patent leather shoes and barrettes in their hair. Sweet little cuties with dimples and big blue eyes. Sisters.

Meet big sister A. (who is my son’s classmate) and little sister D. I had the best, best best time with these young ladies and their wonderful parents Caroline and Mike. They were a bit shy at first, even A. who has seen me volunteer in her classroom many times, but as soon as I confided to them that my favorite color was blue, we had a wonderful time hunting down color in gorgeous Balboa Park.

And, boy, did we find color!

She Is My BFF - San Diego Family Photos

I’ve known her for over 2 decades. Our personalities didn’t “match up” at first. I was quiet, and shy, and studious. She was talkative, confident, and popular. And I can’t even really remember how we became best friends. And I am so glad we did.

Fast forward 20 some years later. We both end up in San Diego, after growing up in Los Angeles. We both have 2 boys that are roughly the same age. We both still like to talk and talk and talk..

Meet her family. Her husband Paulo, who was also a great friend of ours back in the day - Dacely and Paulo started dating our junior year in high school. Meet her energetic and super intelligent oldest son J., and her charming and sweet toddler, A. Yup, they are like family.

I Just Have to Show You . . . - San Juan Capistrano Family Photos

. . . the images to this great session. What made this session so great? Well, look at the boys - just look at them. They are just full of energy and carefree honesty. Wonderful. But there is another reason this session was so fantastic, I got a chance to meet up with my gorgeous friend, Mina. I met Mina at UCLA when we worked together on campus. We had been in touch over the last few months and when Mina called to confirm last minute details of her session, my heart just melted. I have such wonderful memories of Mina from when we were in our early 20s and the wonderful group of people that surrounded us back then. *muah* Big kiss for you, Mina.

Back to the session. The brothers each had their own, very unique personalities. I loved interacting with them to try to get their true selves to show in front of the camera. And I dare say, I think the session was so successful because we were able to do that (check out the first picture below, can’t you just tell what they are like in person?) Tony and Mina both have a great sense of humor and I think that is reflected in how well their kids interact with each other and with their parents. I am so lucky to photograph beautiful families - beautiful on the inside and beautiful on the outside. Perfect.

The Price Family - Coronado Family Photos

Meet the uber cool Price family! This gorgeous family of four drove down from Orange County for a family photo shoot in Coronado.

Oh my goodness! I had such a fun time with this family! Meko and Randy were so laid-back, so playful with the girls. The girls were a blast to photograph - they had such great energy! Big sister A. loved digging in the sand for shells, while little sister E. was thrilled to point out all of the trash cans along the walkways.

Six Degrees of Separation: Jay, Tara, & The Dibbles

This post is about a super-duper cute family and two awesome photographers. And how we are all connected.

So, I was heading home from Jay Reilly’s birthday party and decided to stop by Leo Carrillo Ranch with my son. I stopped there because I had just checked out Tara Whitney’s blog and was amazed and inspired - which is what happens every time I visit her blog. She had photographed a family at Leo Carrillo. Jay is friends with Tara - he photographed her family.

Enter the Dibbles. Shea and Beth and their adorable young boys, A. and E. They are among my fave people on Earth. They are down to earth, funny, and very family oriented. So I took them to Leo Carrillo to explore, laugh, climb trees (we didn’t find any good ones to climb), and to capture their family in action.

Susan and Her Boy

Boys and Trains: The Pham Family In San Juan Capistrano

Sunday morning was wonderful! I got to spend it with the beautiful Pham family in San Juan Capistrano. I’ve known Joe and his amazing wife Mychele for well over a decade. We go way back - way back to the ol’ UCLA days. And even though we don’t have many opportunities to see each other on a regular basis, I feel that the friendship we formed many years ago is what makes it so easy to pick up exactly where we left off.

Oh, and let me introduce to you their adorable boys. J. and N. Aren’t they the cutest? They remind me a lot of my own boys, their ages are similar, their personalities are very similar, and their brotherly dynamic mirrors that of my boys almost to the tee. Let me leave it to the pictures to do the talking.

The Schwank Family - Lifestyle Se ssion

I’ve been sitting here for the past 25 minutes wondering what I am going to write about this session. I can’t really put it into words. I can’t really even begin to explain how special and marvelous and beautiful this family is. Really. You can’t but help fall in love with them instantly.

Jennifer, Zak, big sis E. and little brother J. are incredible souls. It was my sincere honor to spend an afternoon with them documenting what they love best - spending time at home, playing with toys, baking cookies, and reading in bed. I absolutely 100% LOVE photographing lifestyle sessions! Documenting the everyday lives of families, capturing rituals, preserving memories - for me, that is the essence of photography.

It is no secret. I love photographing newborns. I love how tiny they are. I love how they smell. I love how they can produce these wonderful facial expressions even though they are only a few days old. Most of all, I love how they remind me of how tiny my two sons used to be.

This little one is super special to me. Baby S. is the third boy to join the Perry family. Big brothers S. and R. are two of my favorite boys around - they are good playmates of my own two boys. Julie and John enjoy these pictures of your beautiful little boy. I’m already as besotted with him as you are.

Lucky

I’m one lucky girl. Very lucky. I have a wonderful family, awesome friends, a job that I love. But how does the lucky apply specifically to this post? I was lucky enough to photograph the amazing and uber photogenic Colllins Family. Lisa and I had been going back and forth on scheduling a session for a few months and nothing was working for our schedules. We finally put a date on the calendar and dark clouds threatened the session. In San Diego? in August? Yep, who would have thunk it?

I also count myself super lucky because Lisa and her husband Bryce trusted me enough to let me take them to downtown. Most families might not give downtown SD a second thought when it comes to a family portraiture session. But the fun-loving Collins were up for it! Yipppeeee!

Picture Perfect

How cute are they? Really, aren’t they picture perfect? I very much enjoyed meeting the adorable Zucchet family on Sunday. They chose beautiful Coronado beach as the location for their family portrait session. M. and C. had a blast exploring the beach and they did all of this on an empty stomach. After the session, the family got a chance to enjoy a brunch together. What a perfect way to begin their day, don’t you think?

Teresa and family bid on my family portrait session at a school auction. I love donating portrait sessions to schools because I know the money they raise goes towards funding very necessary programs that benefit the children. I know this school well, and can imagine that the donation went to funding the science enrichment program, the photography project in the 3rd grade, the character-building curriculum, or the amazing Field Day program that brings the entire school community together.

Thanks guys! Thanks for not only donating to your local school, but for being a joy to photograph.

The End of Summer - Not quite Yet

Nope, not in San Diego. Kids are heading back to school, the days are beginning to get shorter, it is beginning to get a bit cooler in the evenings. All of these are signs that summer is coming to an end. But here in San Diego, it seems that summer couldn’t ever possibly end. Nope, here in San Diego, we get to enjoy a timeless summer year round.

One of the jewels of San Diego is beautiful Coronado. It is perfect. It embodies summer. And this is where the wonderful Lehman family enjoyed a perfect evening. It was perfect; the skies, the waves, the ocean smells. This family is sweet. Mom and Dad are so lovey-dovey with each other (check out picture #3) and they simply adore their kids. ADORE!

I hope you adore these images, since it was my absolute pleasure to share this perfect evening with this beautiful family.

The Hendrix Family in LIttle Italy

I got the pleasure to photograph the awesome Karen Hendrix of Firefly Images and her adorable, adorable family last week. They’ve enjoyed an extended vacation in San Diego - visiting with family, enjoying the pool, and taking in all that our fine city has to offer. They rounded out their vacation with a fun, portrait session in one of the most colorful spots in town, Little Italy. (*Sidenote: Little Italy is hoppin’ on a Friday night! What an awesome place to hang out for food, music, and fun!*)

And speaking of color, it is no surprise that I love COLOR! I love it! After going through my NYC phase in the late 1990s (wearing nothing but black and gray and . .*gasp* . . . navy when I was feeling bold) I fled to the world of color. Now, now, . . . to those who know me, I’m still a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. But now my t-shirts are orange, and pink and red. And my jeans are, . . . well, they’re navy . . . but my skirts and shorts are green and baby blue and yellow! Awww, color!

I haven’t forgotten about black, though - I love a beautiful B&W portrait. So today’s post will be a bit of color with a good splash of beautiful B&W.

Mommies-to-be are among the MOST beautiful beings on Earth. They really are. Perhaps they don’t feel beautiful all the time, but I think mommies-to-be are gorgeous. I present to you the evidence  Beautiful Michele. Brilliant. Lovely. In full bloom. Mike is one lucky guy, don’t you think?

I met up with the wonderful Mike and Michelle today for their maternity session. They are truly one of the most beautiful couples I know. Truly. Their beauty is not just on the surface, it comes from deep within, from their true hearts and their compassionate souls. I am lucky to count them as friends.

Remy: Class of 2010

Flashback to 1990-sumthin: It is the summer before my senior year in high school. I’m hanging out with my BFFs, working a part time job, and getting ready for the most exciting year of my life. Somethings never change. Or do they?

Back when I was in high school, and I had to hike 25 miles in the snow (all uphill) just to get to school, we didn’t have the opportunity to take cool senior pictures. We had to take the studio set-up pictures, wearing our cap and gown or that fuzzy, collarbone sash they made the girls wear. That’s what made it into the yearbook. I wish I could have taken portraits that highlighted ME and MY personality, my interests, my favorite hangs.

Flashforward to 2009, enter Remy: She is also hanging out with her BFFs, working part time, and awaiting the beginning of one of the most exciting years of her life! But, she gets to take Senior Shots that don’t involve that itchy, fuzzy, collarbone sash.

The R. Family in Sun Diego

Ahhh, Sun Diego . . . . People travel far and wide to spend their vacations in the glorious beauty of our city. Enter the Regala family visiting from Texas. I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon with them in Coronado to enjoy the sun, surf and sand. Paradise.

Doesn’t big brother B. have the sweetest smile? He liked exploring the sand with his feet, a bit cautiously at first, and then with lots of gusto! He wasn’t super excited about the cold water. Little brother D. was one of the happiest babies I’ve ever had the pleasure to photograph. It was 2 hours past his bedtime by the time we finished the session and he was STILL smiling for me! Beautiful Newborn

I have a tough job. Not. When I get to work with scrumptiously beautiful newborns and stunningly marvelous parents, I have the easiest job in the world. The other day, a friend asked, “How do you get the babies to sleep and curl up so?” I answered, “That’s easy, I give them to their mommies.” See, I do have the easiest job in the world. Seriously, mommies and daddies are the best baby-whisperers. I just come in with my camera, a cute baby cocoon, and voila!

Meet amazing M. Just 8 days old and absolutely perfect. This comes as NO surprise because, well, . . . look at her parents and adorable brother. I mean, just LOOK at ‘em!

Family Pictures - Heritage Park

You know when you meet someone and get to know them, whether it be at a birthday party or a barbeque, and you just smile? You smile and smile because they just radiate generosity and spirit? This is the Kent Family. I know Leah, because our 4 year olds go to preschool together. We’ve greeted each other for the past two years as we drop off our boys, we’ve casually chatted at the classroom parties.

On Saturday, I got a chance to finally spend some quality time with this gorgeous mom of 5 and meet her terrific kids. T., who just graduated from high school (yahoooie T!), is one of the most polite, thoughtful young men I have ever met. Beautiful A. is a sweet young lady with a passion for photography (whoo hooo, A!). S. and D. are bundles of energy - S. a little more camera shy and D. quite the opposite. (They both kept on picking up flowers for me - thanks sweet boys!). And darling Luke - the little star of the family - who brought laughter and tenderness to our session.

Really, it should be CUTENESS X 5. What a pleasure it was to photograph the wonderful K. family this morning. They celebrate the arrival of their beautiful little girl, K. What a perfect baby! You’ll have to agree as your preview her portraits below. Isn’t she darling? Big brothers G. and E. joined mommy and daddy for some fun!

And don’t you just love the tutu? I mean, a baby girl in an adorable tutu! It just makes me smile. Jennifer Fenelli is the creator of the tutu. She has the cutest clothes for little girls - tutus, Swarovsky crystal shirts, hair bows and clips. You name it, she’s got it!

Ohhhh! Gorgeous Boy

They make my heart melt! They do. Toddlers are just so incredible. Sure, they can be a bit strong-willed. Sure, they might stare at you with a look that says, “Who are you, crazy lady?” But when they take your hand and trust you to show them a new adventure it just melts my heart.

It was my great, great pleasure to photograph M. - one of the sweetest little boys I’ve ever met! Mom J. and dad K. met me in Old Poway Park with grandparents C. and S. We had a little picnic, we played near a train. We had a great afternoon! Hey, little M., thanks for bringing your parents and grandparents to the photo session. What a great idea you had to invite a few of your favorite people to join in on the fun!

Newborns. Goodness. They are so beautiful. Their precious little hands and feet. Their sweet baby smell. And to hold and cuddle a sleepy newborn - pure heaven.

Shoot Your Kids Workshop

On Saturday, I attended Jay Reilly’s Workshop. Jay is not only a fabulous photographer (obviously!) but a really fun guy to shoot with. Jay scheduled two shoots for all of the workshop attendees. The first shoot was in the alleyway in the back of Jay’s Oceanside studio and in the surrounding neighborhood. The second shoot was on the beach next to the O’side pier. We got to work with an amazing set of kids. And now, . . . . a few (it was soooo hard to choose!) of my faves.

Lifestyle Session - Kaheny/MClemore Family

It was my great pleasure to meet with the Kaheny/McLemore family this morning. This launches my new Lifestyle Sessions, aka “The Sweet Life(style),” a twist on traditional portraiture.

How is a Lifestyle Session different than a traditional portrait session? A Lifestyle Session is a more relaxed affair, it allows me to spend time with your family and document the simple moments and meaningful interactions that occur between you and your family members every day. It is what I do for my family - I only wish that I was in more of the pictures! I document the lives of my boys with my husband, with their grandparents, and with their friends. Pictures of my boys riding their bikes, drawing on the pavement with chalk, pouring a bowl of cereal, brushing their teeth, and putting on their shoes - this is what defines their life right now. It isn’t sitting for the camera and saying cheese.

You might ask, “But what if I also want a photo of the whole family?” I do incorporate traditional portraiture into a lifestyle session - it is very important to show the whole family unit. But instead of having you stand or sit a certain way, I look for the best moments to have the family stop and come together for a natural, interactive portrait. This session style is very casual and is preferred by most families. Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you are ready to book a session. I promise it will be FUN!

Back to the main reason for this {BLOG} post - the beautiful Kaheny/McLemore Family! I arrived at their home bright and early so I could document a most important event - making carrot cake cupcakes. MMMMMM! The lovely, little ladies, O. and C. were great helpers in the kitchen. They mixed ingredients, they frosted cupcakes, and decorated them, as well. After all that wonderful yumminess we went to explore the neighborhood. We picked lemons and baby carrots from the garden, played in the fountain, poked around in the dirt, gave the doggies lots of hugs, rode a bike and a trike, and stopped for some good reading. I’ll start off with some pictures and end with their slideshow (scroll down, you’re gonna love it!)

San diego’s Children’s Museum

Have you been to the new Children’s Museum downtown. You must. It is such a wonderful place for little ones and big ones. We try to go at least once month (they have free admission the second Sunday of the month). My two monkeys love to run around the spacious areas. They, dance, climb, build, and laugh. What more can I ask for?

My name is Laura Marsden, I’ve been an industrial designer for 15 years. Once my three children were born, I began creating clothing for them to satisfy my need to express myself creatively- so many people asked me if I would do items for their children too, Lily and Rose (my two daughters middle names- after 2 wonderful great grandmothers- one of whom convinced me to give my now husband a chance and date him!) was born. I currently do business word of mouth, on etsy, and will be moving a selection of items to the Coop in Hingham Square, MA the first of May!

I love this particular dress, I created my own pattern, and tried to reflect the shapes and delicacy of ruffly shell edges. It buttons with clear crystal buttons, has a tucked bodice that flows into a full skirt. The underskirt is attached and has angled insertions for extra fullness. It is on a size 2-4 size form, and is a size 7, so it is hanging off a bit- still too cold in New England to get shots of my daughter in it!

Vintage: Julie and Jonathan Expecting

I love photographing mommies-to-be. It is so beautiful to see a woman full of joy, full of anticipation, full of life. I know some elements of a pregnancy are less than fun (my least favorite part of being pregnant were the leg cramps I would get at 2am!), but having a maternity session is definitely FUN!

Meet Julie and Jonathan! They are expecting their little boy at the beginning of May (I can’t wait to meet him!). We spent the early morning hours walking along the picturesque UCSD Campus.

You may notice this session looks a little different than my previous work. After talking with Julie and getting her ideas about what kind of portraits she liked, I decided to focus on making her session vintage-y. If you’ve seen my previous work, you know I love bold and bright colors. I thought a vintage look would complement Julie’s in-bloom beauty. What do you think?

Isabella in Wonderland

I can’t remember how old I was when I first read Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland. I must have been 9 or 10 years of age, old enough to read the book by myself, but young enough to be perplexed by the magic and wonder contained within it’s pages.

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to step inside Isabella’s Wonderland - a beautiful party for an adorable little girl. Her parents created a magical place, a fantasy party complete with mini tea cups and cupcakes, colorful treats, and special visits from The Rabbit (“I’m late! I’m late! I’m late for a very important date”) and Alice herself!

The Details
I am donating a fashion photo shoot. Style Your Life is donating the "styling" for the photo shoot.
The grand prize winner will win all photographic images from the shoot to display on your website and/or in your boutique, and you will be featured on the "Style Your Life" blog and "Sylvia Borgo Photography" blog.

Who can enter?
This contest is for anyone that designs Children's Clothing or has a Children's Boutique/Website.

So how do you enter?
Email photos of your children's clothing and or accessories to jennifer.rosson@gmail.com. Please include all of your contact information (website address, store address, blurb about your business, etc)

The Rules
Enter as often as you'd like.
Tell all your designer friends so they can enter as well.

Clothing will be modeled by size 7/8 girl or a size 5 boy, so you will need to supply us with clothing in these sizes.

The Gray Family in Full Color

Forgive the geeky pun!

I met Jill, Darren, and gorgeous baby F. in Coronado today - a bit of an overcast morning, but the sun peeked out for us just a bit. A not-so-secret photography tip: overcast skies are a photographer’s dream - it produces very even light which in turn helps produce great pictures!

This family knew how to dress for the occasion! They wore gorgeous bright colors which contrasted perfectly with the blue of the ocean, the tan of the sand, and the white details of the Hotel Del. Great style guys!
